Every summer for about 8 years now, our church
has gone to this place called "Camp Lane". It has these wooden house
things for people to sleep in and it has a lodge and it's near a
stream. We rent it for a weekend consisting of Thursday through
Monday. Anyone from our California and Idaho churches are welcome to
come if they can afford it, and a lot of them come. It's probably
the only time during the year when we can all see each other, since
we all know each other (everyone knows everyone in our church, and
are much closer to them than anyone not in the chruch). Well,
something happened with the scheduling this year. We already had our
spot booked, but some group who has gone there for even longer than
we have accidentally scheduled some extra days that overlapped into
ours, and they have priority, so we had to cancel.
So, we rescheduled for a different, less favorable (for our
liking) time, which was a few months later. Well, about 2 weeks
before it started, we heard of a forest fire that was far enough
away from Camp Lane that it wasn't a threat, but close enough so
that the firefighters had to use Camp Lane as their base while they
put the fire out. Everyone, including me, already had time off of
work and everything. After some thoughtful thoughts (brings back
memories of a Thot and Sed poem), we decided to hold "Camp Lane" at
our house, on our 2 acres of land (on a side note, we figured out
that if we had gotten our original Camp Lane date, we would've had
to cancel it halfway through because that's the same time Sis. Janet
died).
So, I had to do lotsa weed-eating and trimming of trees and other
junk. On Thursday I helped Bro. Steve and Nick set up 4 tents beside
our house. Only the kids slept in the tents. Nick would have to work
during most of the campout, so with only the little boys in the
guys' tent, I slept in my bed, getting my room to myself. My mom
said no computer or video games during the event, but how long does
that last? Besides, I was in the middle of a time I needed to talk
to someone and I didn't want to have no communication with them
whatsoever right when I wanted to more than other times. On Friday
we went to Calapooia, which is a water hole with large rocks in it
that you can jump off of. I sat in a chair most of the time (the
only chair left and it was tearing) with Amy and her friend, Joann.
We talked about video games and Lord of the Rings and anime and our
stories (we all have several stories we've written). I got tired of
moving with the shade, so I took my chair and a notepad and hopped
rocks to the other side where it was going to stay shady for a while
and started writing a letter, one that I'm not too sure I'll finish
since I no longer am worrying about the thing I started writing
about, lol. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Grange (where we have
church) and had lunch at our house. I played badmitton with Bro.
Keith, Bro. Jimmy, and Bro. Adam. I also played with my sister, Amy,
Cory (Nick's younger brother), and Joann. We had dinner at Bro. Jim
and Sis. Judy's house once. One time we were at the Grange and they
were doing singing practice and I didn't want to be there so I said
I would walk home and they said I would get home before them. It's 3
miles to my house from there, and I ran the whole way. It was hard,
lol. It was fun overall, but it's much better at the real Camp Lane,
except I can't do email there, lol. Oh yeah, and my Aunt Vicki from
California came, too. I haven't seen her for like 7 years. She's
cool. She calls my sisters "girlfriend" and says other things like
that, which is different from when I knew her before, but it's a
good change because she used to sound really weak and out of energy.
